Charlie Burgess – Blog #2 – What’s Been Happening

Hey everyone! I know I said I was going to write a new blog a few weeks ago but things have been so crazy as of late it’s hard to keep up with everything. At times it seems as though things are moving way to fast but I’m doing a good job of managing them all. OK so I’ll let you know what I’ve been up too. I’ve had a few shows since my last blog. I preformed at the St.Philippes Music Hall Open House on May 27th. Now there wasn’t a big turnout but everyone that was there wanted to be there. There I finally met the young group “Letterbomb“(Brennan Dube, Dylan Pendleton, and Cameron Dube). If you guys haven’t seen this group live be sure to do so. I see nothing but good things for them in the near future. Big thanks to Brian Chute for allowing me a chance to perform. As well I also got interview by Greg Holden of CKReview which was kind of cool. I had the chance to perform at the Kinsmen Fair on June 10th. It was a great experience. Everyone there from the sound crew/stage manager etc was very professional and took pride in looking out for all the artist. The Letterbomb boys were there again and we chatted abit. I’m sure we’ll do more of that this summer. Now the day before I performed at the fair I had a chance to watch Ms Brooklyn Roebuck perform live. Now let me just say this, if you have never watched her live before well you gotta get on that. She’s a superstar in the making and I’m usually not wrong about stuff like that. Afterwards I finally had a chance to meet her. Such a nice person, I even gave her a Playasville shirt. She’s a big supporter of my music as I am of hers. Next I traveled to Wallaceburg. I was looking forward on perform down town for 4Th Friday Culture Crawl, but it looked like mother natural wasn’t cooperating because it began to rain with no sign of slowing down. Big thanks to Michael Cowtan and the Sydenham Cultural Action Team for reaching out to us. Hopefully its better weather next time. Great local talent on hand there though. Alyssa Doherty is a great young talent and I’m looking forward on hearing more from her in the future. As well as Jake Fancy. I wish I knew how to play a musical instrument oh well. Really enjoyed listening to the Chatham Kent Mountaineers also. They played great even with a few members down. Now earlier in the day I was live in studio on air at 99.1 CKXS. Jay Smith actually interviewed me live on air. Now that truly meant a lot to me. I work so hard for what I do and I’m glad that I have the local radio support. Big thanks goes out to Jay Smith and the whole CKXS team not only for the live interview but for featuring me all week long on the local spotlight and playing my music!  They have never featured a hip hop singer before so this was a great honour. Just think the summer is just getting started I can’t wait to see what’s in store next. Again thank you everyone I would be nothing without you. Now before I sign off I want to leave you all with just one thing. No matter what your passion in life is never let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. If it’s something you truly love just go for it and don’t turn back.

Friday Feature #4 – Bethony Kay

Gritty, unadulterated but smooth is how Bethony Kay operates. The growing fan base she is creating is attracted to the no nonsense lyrics sung by a soulful, painfully beautiful voice. Recognized by some of the big players in the game as the second coming of hip hop soul, Bethony Kay will undoubtedly make millions when the platform is given. Until then, she will work her business savvy to create it herself.

With many collaborations and features under her belt, many which have been featured on radio stations across the country and internationally as well as on many prominent websites, Bethony Kay is looking for a home where her Soul Street persona can grow. She is currently on a mixtape campaign, about to release her first solo project “Beauty Is A Beast”. While it is a mixtape, she has hand selected beats, and has gotten inside each song to create brand new heat that people are familiar with, and even kicked a flow to show off her writing skills and hip hop heart.

Previously using the alias “Bekasings”, Beka has revamped her image with a more individual style, and is now going by her birthname Bethony Kay (Beka for short). The movement will grow working with up and coming artists that share her musical integrity. Bethony Kay is becoming a brand like no other, representing the women of the struggle, down for their men, raising the kids and trying to make it out of the hood. Those heart-wrenching ballads are there, only with the streets in mind. And while the talented singer/songwriter is tactful, the sexiness of her confidence and softness will always catch eyes and hearts of onlookers.

Bethony Kay has reached ears as far as Australia, London and Jamaica where she shared the stage with Jah Mason and Ninja Man, as well as gained recognition in Buffalo, NY opening up for Jagged Edge and being the recipient of the R&B artist of the year award at the Unsigned Hype Music Awards, 2010. She is constantly working on placement opportunities with people like producer Mynority, and has peaked the interest of A&Rs for many independent labels as well as a couple majors.

Raised in Lockport, NY and currently living in Buffalo, Beka is ready to make the move to a major city and pound the pavement in the streets where you can never deny what the people want. And the people want that soul shaking music that Miss Kay can provide.
